Once upon a time there was an ant-hill. In this ant-hill, there were hundreds of ants, each as insignificant to the larger happenigs of the world as the other. It was in this ant-hill that the ants learnt the lesson that unless they all joined forces into making their ant-hill strong, they would all not survive. Some leant this lesson faster than the others, but ultimately they all learnt it.
It was in this ant-hill that the ants got to know the others much better. Some ants started to like some ants a lot, while they detested some others. Yet the entire ant-hill had some sort of a harmony in it. Each ant had a role to play in the ant-hill, yet none of each ant's contribution was significant to the larger scheme of things!
Then one day, one ant ventured out of the ant-hill and found that it could do more useful things outside the ant-hill. It walked away from the ant-hill and laid a path. As is common with ants, they like to follow one another. And so, a stream of ants followed this ant. Some ants, though they liked the ants that left, did not follow them as they wanted to do different things in life. They ended up losing their "precious" ant friends for life!!!
Ultimately it so happened that all the ants moved out of the ant-hill and went out in different directions while a totally different set of ants took over the ant-hill. The initial set of ants dont keep in touch anymore.
You call it an ant-hill. I call it an Engineering College!
