And for the last time...

READ MY LIPS!!!

There are four South Indian states and we are all NOT Madrasis! For that matter, even Madrasis are not Madrasis anymore. They/We are called Chennai-ites.

The name of the state is Tamil Nadu and NOT Tamilnad. Were you taught the letter "u" when you were in LKG? We dont go about calling ur state as Delh or our country as Indi, leaving out the last letter, do we?

The name of the language is Kannada and not Kannud. The word is made up of 3 syllables and NOT 2. And no, Kannada is not the same as Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam. And No, the scripts dont look alike!!!

Just because the crow is the most abundant in our country, not all birds are crows. And NOT all people speak hindi.

"Kyun Ki" and "Mathlab Ki" or any other Godrej Key should not find itself in a proper English sentence. How would you like it if I added "vaa da" or a "po daa" in every line of English I spoke!?

We wash our hands before eating as it is considered hygenic. We wash our hands even if we eat with a spoon. And NO, you cannot eat a dosa with a spoon.

For Christ's sake, if someone asks "What is your name", please reply saying "I am Rahul" and not "Myself Rahul"!!

Coconut oil is good for the hair and Brylcreem is NOT. If u want good hair, use Coconut oil!!! Go Mallus!!

Paneer Butter Masala is not the only food in the world!!

Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam are NOT difficult to learn. "Yeshtu" is as easy to pronounce as "Kithnaa". Make an attempt to learn the language. You are in Karnataka for Pete's sake!!

South Indian names are not tongue twisters. Even Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman isnt a tongue twister!!!

"Manmadaha Raasa" and "Appadi Podu" are 'masala' songs and we love them. "Babuji" isnt the only masala song in the world!

Talking about dances, there are dance steps where you dont have to lift both ur arms and show "six signals" like an umpire does! Phuleez, learn some new steps people!

Diagonally stripped shirts are NOT cool!!!

DONT wear sun-shades inside the building. There is a Tamil saying about an "alpan" (loser) and an "umbrella". You remind me of that!!!

Follow this, and Bangalore will be a nice place to live in. Atleast for the south indians!!

;)

Go, Vikki, Go..! Good one actually. People are too indulged in the self, and don't come out of their comfort zones and see that the world is much bigger than they had imagined.

well i agree to what u hav written..
but see,, even we ppl(south) r not perfect.. they too complain a lot abt us..

a simple eg.. they say ,we cant pronounce the name of our country- bharath..(its bha..not ba)

like this there r many...
so u think all ppl in TN pronounce "tamilnadu" properly???

and coming to ur "madrasis" thing... tell me ..do u differentiate b/w all north,east,west indians?? no rt.. what we say??...even educated ppl say that...hindikaran(s)..

this issue can never be solved;)

one thing is making me a bit sad.. majority of the comments r on ur side..

@Div:

I totally agree that we are not complete and that we do have our short-comings. The point in contention here isnt about who is better and who is not. It is about "adapting to the conditions"...

When in Bangalore, the Bangalorean is the boss and he lays the rules. It aint, and it should never be, the other way around!

@Div Contd..

Northies say that Chennai doesnt have a "night life", which in their definitions are pubs and discotheques. What needs to be understood is that the culture followed by Chennai doesnt have room for that, and it is that fact that needs to be respected and not ridiculed at.

Lets say, how would they feel if we start calling their night parties and booz parties as totally immoral?? Wont they feel bad? But, it is their style of life. But that style ends there. Asking for the same in Chennai is down right improper!

Whoosh 2 said...

@Div Contd:

Who said that we cannot pronounce the name of our country properly?? It is Bha, and not ba as u said, but Tamilians never pronounce it as baratham, it is always Bharatham.

And yes, all south indians can pronounce tamilnadu properly!!!! Show me one person who cannot.

Well yes, we do differentiate. We have Bongs, Gujjus, Punjabis, Delhi-ites, north east guys and what not!!! We dont call the entire population of north india as Sardarjis, do we??

div said...

lets hope for the best happenings in blore..not only in blore but in all places.

div said...

haha.. we shall hav a debate online..

Whoosh 2 said...

@Div, Contd: The bottom line is this..

When a southie travels to the north, he takes the pains to learn the language to communicate. Why is it that the same doesnt hold good when a northie comes to the south??

And lets not even get into this Hindi is our national Language crap!! India, before integration, had clearly demarkated boundaries and hindi was NEVER a language of the Dravidian region. The only reason why hindi was practiced (later on) here was for Commerce and nothing more than that!!! This concept of a national language can hold good in nations like France or Germany, where there is only one language, but calling a language a national language in a country as diverse as ours with so many different languages is such a HUGE mistake!!! The right thing for the consitution to do is to call all languages as "regional" languages and be done with it!!

div said...

@vikram: well as far as i know.. in present india,no state has problem with the national language except TN.

there is only gain in learning a language(hindi) ... when we can accept english.. i dont see any difficulty in accepting hindi as our national lang..

Whoosh 2 said...

@Div: U are getting me wrong again.. I am totally FOR learning Hindi and my understanding of Hindi is pretty fine now. English is an "official language" in India. It isnt a "national language" in the same context as in what hindi is being referred to.

U are from Andhra. Go to the small towns of Andhra. How much Hindi do u think they speak?? Go to Karnataka? Except Blore and Mysore, how much Hindi is spoken there?

What abt Mallu Land? U have been there, right?

Again. Learning Hindi. Great.
Speaking Hindi. Great.
Attitude. Not Great!!

Oh come on, how many of 'you' chennai-ites talk in English to a non-tamilian. English vandhalum, they reply back in tamil and make the person feel outta place. I've heard so many experiences from my Northie friends who've had to take a connecting train from Chennai, and have had miserable experiences, thanks to the Xenophobic Chennaities!!!

Its high time we accept the fact that Hindi is out national language. It doesnt hurt to learn it!!!!

Jagan said...

machi ..nalla damage da ....i hav heard these ppl say tht chennai ppl are not friendly bcos chennaites dont speak hindi ..come dudes , do we complain abt mumbai or delhi saying they dont apeak tamil,kannada ...?

Whoosh 2 said...

@Preetha: "English vandhaalum tamil-la pesuvaanga".. Tell me seriously, have u personally experienced this? Even if that happens, that would probably happen within TN and not in Delhi...

see, my problem is not with hindi at all. I am totally in favor of learning hindi and it is a great language. What i am pissed off is with the attitude of "SOME" north indian people here in Bangalore.

I have some great north indian friends that i have made in IIIT and they seriously dont exhibit the traits that i have mentioned here. But there are certain others at my college who do. And this is about them!

We should practice what we do in programming too where it is a norm for local variables to take priority over global ones. Same should apply in life too.

@Sunil,

Well, I am sure u wouldnt have gone through the comments above cause I have repeatedly stated my exact intentions of the post there. Reading ur comment, I can only summarize that u havent understood the context of my argument.. Some clarifications are in order here.

"you say all south indian languages are not same but still chat and write in tamil".. When I am in the company of a co-tamilian I would tend to speak in the language we are both comfortable in. If there is a third person in the midst, without finding out whether the other person understands the language, we WOULD NOT speak in tamil. This is not the case with Hindiwalahs. Why is there an assumption that ALL people SHOULD know hindi?? This is the thing that I dont quite understand.

"and come on who many of south indians know a different south indian language other than their mother tongue.."-- Let me talk for me and my buddies as I cannot generalize. I personally know Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. I can understand Malayalam to an extent. I learnt all the languages (except tamil, which is my mother tongue) purely out of interest. Most of my friends out here are multilingual too.. So, I am afraid this argument of urs doesnt hold in my blog!
